Event Details
This time last year, we organised a one-day event to discuss the use of WordPress at the heart of UK government. It seemed to go pretty well. So we thought we'd do it again.
Word Up Whitehall is an opportunity for civil servants in central government, plus the extended family of developers who know government work best, to spend a day talking about how departments are using the WordPress publishing platform.
Things have really moved on in the past 12 months. We've seen a couple more large Whitehall departments moving their entire online publishing operation over to WordPress; others have adopted it as their 'favourite other' CMS, building new sites on it, or migrating existing ones over to it.
WordPress itself has moved on considerably, becoming a more mature publishing environment with each new release. With the addition of custom post types and taxonomies, the integration of multisite functionality, and the development of add-ons such as BuddyPress, WordPress is now ready to power not just a single site, but an entire network - leading to whole new ways of conceiving corporate web platforms.
Of course, there's a wider context to all this: most notably, the initiation of the Single Domain strategy for central government. And whilst the core platform for corporate publishing will be a bespoke development, the vision does reserve a place for WordPress and its ilk. And now, as the plans start to come together, it's the perfect opportunity to share everything we've learned.
It'll be a packed agenda, consisting mainly of 20-25 minute 'show and tell' presentations, led by the civil servants themselves wherever possible: we're hoping to hear from all the big WP-based projects, most of which you can guess at, but some of which you won't have heard of yet (ahem). We'll also have a few specially invited guests from the WordPress community: details to follow.
There will be no cost for attending: and lunch will be provided. But no more than three attendees per government department, please, to ensure as many departments as possible are able to participate.
If you're a consultant or supplier who is already working on WordPress projects within government, and you'd like to be involved in the event, please contact Simon (using the 'contact the host' link). But please be aware, numbers are limited, and blunt sales pitches will not be permitted.
